Toddler Objectives
 
Intellectual Development:
  • Use their senses to learn about objects in the environment
  • discover that they can make things happen
  • Solve simple problems: find the toy hidden under the blanket, stack nesting cups
  • Learn simple rhymes, songs and sequence of gestures: finger plays, peek-a-boo, patty cake, etc.
  • Name things in the environment
  • Build number awareness, using objects in the environment and exploring counting and shape books
  • See and touch different shapes, colors, sizes, and patterns
  • Explore and learn about painting and scribbling
  • Begin to understand that pictures represent real things in the environment
  • Independently explore books
  • Look at and respond to picture books with teacher as she reads
  • Express self through freely moving to music
  • Express self through imaginative/pretend play

  • Learn the names and recognize the basic shapes: Circle, square, triangle, star, rectangle, heart, diamond, oval, cross
  • Learn the names and recognize the basic colors: Red, yellow, orange, brown, black, green, blue, purple, pink
  • Begin to sort objects by color
  • Begin to match objects
  • Count to 5
  • Become familiar with the letters of the alphabet
  • Become familiar with numbers
  • Sing the ABC song
Motor Development:
  • Develop hand and eye coordination through activities: Stacking objects, art, music and movement
  • Begin/reinforce potty training
  • Enhance gross motor development through activities: Music and movement, climbing, playground time
  • Enhance fine motor development through activities: Play dough, art, tearing paper
 
Social Development:
  • Follow directions (one direction at a time)
  • Reinforce and encourage manners (please and thank you)
  • Introduce sharing and taking turns

  • Sort and classify objects according to color/size
  • Count to 10
  • Recognize numbers 1-10
  • Understand and demonstrates one-to-one correspondence
  • Begin learning the days of the week
  • Begin learning the months of the year
  • Recite finger plays and participate in singing
  • Exposure to left and right
  • Begin to recite the pledge of allegiance
  • Begin to create a simple pattern using two colors
Gross Motor Development:
  • Can kick a ball
  • Throw a ball
  • Catch a bouncing ball
  • Bounce a ball
  • Climb on playground equipment
  • Gallop
  • Hop (two feet together/landing two feet together at the same time)
 
Fine Motor Development:
  • Button, zip, and snap
  • Begin to use scissors properly
